I hope this message finds you well. My name is Tracy Manning, and I am currently an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) student at Walden University. I seek clinical preceptors who can help me develop the skills, knowledge, and professional insight necessary to become a competent and compassionate nurse practitioner. My first practicum will start in May 2025.
Practicum 1- Primary Care of Adults Across the Lifespan
Practicum 2- Advanced Practice Care of Older Adults
Practicum 3- Advanced Nurse Practice in Women’s Health
Practicum 4- Synthesis in Advanced Nursing Practice of Patients in Primary Care Settings (choice specialty)
As I search for the right mentor, I wanted to outline some qualities I value in a preceptor that align with my educational and career goals.
1. Experience in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care
I am seeking a preceptor with significant experience working with adult and geriatric populations in a primary care setting. Given my focus on managing chronic diseases, preventive care, and addressing the unique needs of older adults, my preceptor must deeply understand these areas.
2. Effective Teaching and Mentoring
I value a preceptor who is passionate about teaching and mentorship. I hope to work with someone who can explain complex clinical concepts clearly and tailor their teaching to my learning needs. I appreciate constructive feedback and the opportunity to grow through regular evaluations and guidance.
3. Patient-Centered Care
A patient-centered approach to healthcare is essential to me. I seek a preceptor who emphasizes holistic care and respects patients’ needs, values, and preferences, especially in the care of older adults. Observing and learning how to build strong patient relationships through effective communication is something I look forward to during my clinical training.
4. Commitment to Evidence-Based Practice
In today’s healthcare environment, integrating evidence-based practice is key. I would love to learn from a preceptor who applies the latest research and treatment guidelines in their clinical work and encourages critical thinking and clinical decision-making based on current evidence.
5. Balance of Supervision and Autonomy
It is important for me to find a preceptor who can provide an appropriate balance between supervision and autonomy. I am eager to actively participate in patient care with the guidance of someone who can foster my independence while ensuring patient safety and offering mentorship when needed.
6. Support for Professional Growth
As I develop my clinical skills, I hope to gain insight into the broader aspects of being a nurse practitioner, including professional, ethical, and leadership considerations. A preceptor who supports my professional development and helps me understand the nurse practitioner's role in healthcare systems would be ideal.
7. Strong Organizational Skills and Flexibility
An organized and flexible preceptor who can provide structured learning experiences while adjusting to my learning pace would be a great fit for me. I am committed to putting in the work and learning in a way that prepares me to deliver excellent patient care.
8. Encouragement of Critical Thinking
I seek a preceptor who will challenge me to think critically about patient care, engage in clinical reasoning, and encourage me to ask questions. This will help me build confidence in making informed clinical decisions as I transition into practice.

Finally, I seek a preceptor who models compassion, empathy, and ethical integrity in their practice. I am eager to learn from someone who embodies the nursing profession's values and prioritizes patient care with kindness and professionalism.
