Please join the Central Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association in congratulating Dr. Jim Raper for two prestigious honors. On Friday October 22nd in Birmingham, Dr. Raper will be honored as one of the UAB School of Nursing's 60 Visionary Leaders. This award is given to 60 outstanding UAB School of Nursing alumni in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the school and in recognition of their individual contributions to the profession of nursing and outstanding leadership through the years. Dr. Raper was selected from a group of more than 200 outstanding nominees.
On November 13th in Washington, Dr. Raper will be inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. "Selection for membership in the Academy is one of the most prestigious honors in the field of nursing," said Academy President Catherine L. Gilliss, DNSc, RN, FAAN. "Academy Fellows are truly experts. The Academy Fellowship represents the nation’s top nurse researchers, policymakers, scholars, executives, and practitioners."
Selection criteria for FAAN include evidence of significant contributions to nursing and health care. Each nominee must be sponsored by two current Academy Fellows. The new Fellows are selected by a panel comprised of elected and appointed Fellows, and selection is based, in part, on the extent to which nominees' nursing careers influence health policies and health care delivery for the benefit of all Americans. New Fellows will be eligible to use the credentials FAAN (Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing) after their November induction.
Dr. Raper has been a strong advocate for his patients and advanced practice nurses in Alabama for many years. He continues to go above and beyond what is expected in his contributions to the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama. We are truly proud of the contributions that Dr. Raper makes to nursing and health care on a daily basis.
