Nurse Practitioner - Pulmonary Practice

Position Description

Work under the direct supervision of the collaborating physician(s) to provide medical services to office patients, in-patients and sleep patients at a Birmingham Alabama based pulmonary practice, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal training which will be indicated by a current state licensure; graduation certificate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.  Experience consistent with the needs of the practice, dedication to patient satisfaction; ability to communicate effectively; and ability to work compatibly with physicians and other staff members.

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Performs medical examinations and evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow up, and health education.
  2. Take patient histories, record the date of service in the patient’s record, dictate progress notes, prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings, obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
  3. Complete appropriate paperwork needed for patient care such as equipment certifications, work comp papers, and etc.
  4. Order coordinate outpatient procedures with staff and patients. 
  5. Assist physician and ensure maximum efficiency; set up for procedures and examinations; obtain lab test and other reports for physician review.
  6. Triage patients to ensure productive departmental flow.
  7. Record health history of patients; note abnormal conditions for the physician; prepare patients for exams and procedures.
  8. Administer medications as appropriate; document in patient’s chart.
  9. Ensure that patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner; forward charts as appropriate.
  10. Contact pharmacy to order new and refill prescriptions; notify patients; document appropriately.
  11. Notify hospital or other facility personnel of physician’s orders.
  12. Schedule patient visits to other physicians as appropriate.
  13. Notify patients of test results; schedule follow-up appointments as appropriate.
  14. Works with the physician and management team to promote compliance with governmental and regulatory agencies.
  15. Participates in the billing process to support timely and accurate billing and coding.
  16. Assist physician with procedures.
  17. Perform other tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Dedication to patient satisfaction; ability to communicate effectively; ability to work compatibly with physicians and other staff members; ability to work nights; and ability to work independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Work requires completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. State of Alabama licensure is also required. Preferred Experience in Pulmonary, Cardiology, Critical Care is preferred.
