Member Spotlight: Dr. Jimel L. Gibbs, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC

Dr. Jimel L. Gibbs currently serves as CEO of Renewed Focus, LLC. Jimel has earned
dual board-certifications as a family and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner.
She is a three-time graduate of The University of Alabama earning a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing (2006), Master of Science in Nursing (2011), and a Doctor of
Nursing Practice (2020) from The Capstone. She obtained her Post-Master’s Family
Nurse Practitioner from Troy University in 2016. In 2023, she completed a Post-Doctoral
Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. Dr. Gibbs is licensed by the
Alabama Board of Nursing and is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners (AANP) as a Family Nurse Practitioner and by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She is
a distinguished member of the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau
International Honor Society.


Dr. Gibbs earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from The University of Alabama with a
primary focus on chronic pain therapies utilizing non-opioid approaches. In addition to
her outstanding academic background, Jimel has extensive clinical experience in acute
care nursing with a history of caring for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
She maintains a successful clinical practice and accepts multiple public speaking
engagements. During her career, Dr. Gibbs has been privileged to serve a diverse
population with virtue, kindness, and integrity. Her interests in clinical practice and
research focus includes preventative health, nursing education, and improving quality of
life in the chronically ill patient. Dr. Gibbs serves as a preceptor to numerous registered
nurse and nurse practitioner students.


Additionally, Dr. Gibbs is a proud member of the University of Alabama Capstone
College of Nursing Alumni Association and serves as an active member within local and
national organizations: the Alabama State Nurses’ Association (ASNA), the Central
Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association (CANPA), the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of
Alabama (NPAA), the Hospice and Palliative Nurse Association (HPNA), and the
American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She has also raised funds for non-
profit organizations such as the United Way of Central Alabama and the Alabama
Alzheimer's Association. Dr. Gibbs is a wife and mother who enjoys spending time with
her family and participating with her local church ministry.
